Backup your database easily and online!

There still some people that don’t understand how powerful and simple RMAN is… RMAN (Recovery Manager) is an Oracle provided utility for backing-up, restoring and recovering Oracle Databases. RMAN ships with the database server and doesn’t require a separate installation nor licensing. The RMAN is located in your ORACLE_HOME/bin directory and can do offline and online database backups.

If have previously enabled archivelog mode on your database you can quickly and easily backup your database.

Let’s rhythm and blues 🙂

Connect RMAN to the default database:

rman target /

Connect RMAN to a target database without using a recovery catalog:

rman target sys/password@database

Connect RMAN to a target database and a recovery catalog:

rman target sys/password@ database CATALOG catuser/password@catalog_database

Use the BACKUP command to back up files to the configured default device by using the configured channels. For example, at RMAN prompt, use this command to back up the database and all archived logs:

RMAN> backup database plus archivelog;
