Oracle VirtualBox 4.0 available

Santa arrived a bit earlier this year! Oracle launched  a major new release of Oracle VM VirtualBox. Oracle VirtualBox 4.0

With Oracle VirtualBox 4.0 there’s several usability improvements, storage enhancements, broader adoption of Open Virtualization formats and support to latest hardware.

VM Preview in the VirtualBox manager, improved iSCSI support and local storage, support for Open Virtualization Formats such as ovf and ova format appliances, are all nice things I noticed about!

Now there’s support for limiting a VM’s CPU time and IO bandwidth… and support for resizing VDI and VHD images! Two nice candies 🙂

Another portability improvement  is the new configuration storage model which holds all information about a VM, such as virtual hardware, virtual disk files, snapshots and saved state files into a single folder which for the first time allows you to transfer a suspended VM and any snapshot to a new VirtualBox host.

Last, but not least… now is much more simple to implement port forwarding, to easily run VM instances with server software such as an HTTP or a DB server. Btw, this was already possible in earlier versions with some command line VBoxManage tweaking.

So, Merry Christmas and happy downloads 🙂
